Is the acai berry a "superfood?" Or just another healthy fruit?acai berries

Dozens of spam-email messages in your inbox proclaim acai berries are a miracle food. But are they? Do you really have to pay $50 for a small supply of this supposed "super-fruit"? Why do you have to buy a processed supplement? Can't you just eat the berries themselves? If acai berries are so great, why can't you buy them at your local produce market? What other fruits have the same healthy qualities?

Acai is indeed nutrient-packed and healthy. You'd expect that, because, well... it's a berry. Berries are nutrient-dense. Nature creates them that way. In fact, fruits provide a remarkable array of vitamins, minerals, and densely packed energy (sugars). They're anti-oxidant and anti-carcenigenic. And they don't have to cost an arm and a leg, either.  The problem with acai berries is that they're only about 10% pulp, and 90% pit. And you don't want to eat the pit. Sure, they have lots of anthocyanidin pigments, but then so do blueberries. Which are a whole lot more practical to eat. What about apricots and canteloupes? Citrus fruits? In this article, we'll look at ten different fruits you can obtain locally and enjoy, while getting the benefits of "superfoods" without the exorbitant prices charged by hypers and scammers.
